Gluten Free Life

August 28th, 2010 at 01:41 am

I think I am gluten intolerant and probably have been for years. However, recently I have begun to feel worse than normal. A friend happened to mention "gluten intolerance" to me and wondered if I have it. Well, this morning while I had a few minutes, I did some searching for a list of symptoms and a symptom quiz. Well, I am pretty sure I have it. I am going to my doctor next week to discuss it, but I am already on a dairy free diet and have been since 2001. That has been very difficult to maintain, but it has been SO worth it. I was wondering if any of you have this problem and how do you cope with it in the way of buying different food while not going broke? So far, all the foods I have come up with to buy (outside of normal fruits and vegetables that I would buy anyway) are probably going to be more expensive. Anyone have any dairy free and gluten free recipes? This would likely be something for me only, as my hubby hates fruits and vegetables and definitely loves bread.

My father was diagnosed many years ago. He really embraced the changes because he felt so much better after he removed the gluten form his diet. I will say there are many more gluten free choices. If you get confirmed diagnoses I suggest joining the celiac association. They send out information about what products you should and should not buy. I know he purchased a cookbook called the gluten free gourmet.

Thank you. What's funny is that I haven't eaten any bread, barley, or rye since before 12:00 noon yesterday. I understand they are the main offenders. I already feel like I have a new body. I have requested a book on interlibrary loan through my library. I will look for the Gluten Free Gourmet book, also. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you like to use a crock pot for meals, but if you do, check out this site:

    crockpot365 (dot) blogspot (dot)com

I can't remember if the author or one of her children have a need for gluten-free meals, but she makes mention of it often. Check down the left side index, and there's a huge listing for gluten-free.

I'm a big fan of my crock pot and of this site, and have made many of these recipes on this site for my family (though no gluten issues at our house.)

Good luck with your new diet and search for recipes!
