Had the Whole Week Off - Wheee!

May 19th, 2012 at 12:43 am

Hello, financially savvy friends and neighbors! I had the whole week off for vacation. Yeah! But don't worry. I wasn't using that opportunity to spend, spend, spend. In fact, I spent most of it at home. I watched some old tv episodes and movies on Netflix, played with my cats, did some catchup filing of receipts, cleaning my house, cooking, and shredding of receipts I no longer needed. Wow. My house really needed some decluging. It needs a lot more. Maybe I will work on it more tomorrow. I will be back to work on Monday.

As always, I am a constant quest to save money and eat more healthy also. I am also trying to eat some meatless meals to see if that helps. Here are my meals for the coming week:

1) Meatloaf with side of veggies - 2 meals

2) Roast beef with side of veggies - 2 meals

3) Oatmeal with raisins, flaxseeds, almond milk, and honey. Juice. Side of ham. 4 meals

4) Scrambled eggs. Juice. Oatmeal with flaxseeds, almond milk, and honey. 3 meals

5) Spaghetti sauce with rice. Side of veggies. 2 meals

6) Lentil Rice Pilaf. Side of raw veggies. 2 meals

Good on you for using free time to de-clutter. There is a theory that 80 % of the papers we retain are never needed again. The big trick is to be able to find the 20% you need, when you need it! A lot of people apply the same principal to their clothes; mostly wearing 20% of of their wardrobe, 80% of the time. Not counting occasional wear items, we are trying to limit the closets to the stuff we actually wear regularly based on seasonal change-outs.

The sums spent on clothes dropped by 1/3 when we four agreed that when something new came in, something of similar size and use had to go either trashed or donated.

Well, the receipts I got shredded today were like debit and credit card receipts from over a year ago to about a week ago. They are for stuff like groceries, gas, trips to Home Depot, etc. Nothing I need to keep, but I did go through them first and found a few that needed to be kept in the tax receipts file.

I totally agree on new things in and old stuff out policy. I do have a small bag of stuff I can take to a thrift store right now. In fact, I will do it tomorrow! I also have a bag full of paper grocery bags. I usually always take my own cloth shopping bags, but on those rare occasions I do forget, I wind up with another bag. I am taking them to a thrift store that benefits the humane society.

That is impressive to have a week off and not lead yourself into a spending frenzy, way to go! With that kind of discipline, I am sure that you have some insurance of getting through lots of projects, as well. Sounds like a productive week, indeed!
